Chad Says Goodbye to AMX
4 November 2005, 17:00 by Chad Reynoldson
I’m taken back to Sept 16, 1996. It is my first day at AMX in the offices down on Forestgate.
Two weeks earlier I was playing golf at Royal Oaks Country Club with Scott Miller, Joe Hardt, and Brad Conley. Brad was a friend of mine, whom I’d met while hanging projectors for Ancha at his conference center.
Brad tried for a year to get me to go to AMX and I was resistent. I thought I didn’t have the pedigree to keep up with those guys. That year Ancha decided to move to Crestron, so Scott Miller didn’t have a problem asking me to come to work for him. How do you say no to Scott.
The first few months were rough. I remember thinking I’d made the wrong decision, but I stuck with it. We were the programming team back then with Fawzi, Rob Ward, Aaron Caban, and Robin. The jobs were much more simpler then they are today.
Fawzi gave me my first big job the next year, the Black Entertainment Television Soundstage. I don’t recall any details of the job, but remember I was scared to death that I’d screw it up.
Over the next 9 years, many jobs were programmed and lots of jobsites were visited. We moved to the Richardson office. We went through the Panja years. We introduced Netlinx (I racked up the frequent flyer miles that year). People came and went. Only Fawzi remains in the “programming team”.
Professional Services was the new team that I left today. They are a good group of people and I will miss them all very much. I didn’t realize what impacts they had on my life until my last days with them. Walking out of AMX today and leaving them all behind along with 9 years of fond memories has me feeling reminiscent and missing them.
Best of luck to you friends. As Fawzi would say ‘choi.
Chad
