Sharp LC65D93U

Anyone who has ever tried to turn on a Sharp display from the 232 port knows what a pain it can be. I’ve read many forum posts, and even a “definitive” answer, but they all seem to provide discrepancies. Some posts talk of firmware upgrades. Other posts talk of navigating the unit’s on-screen-display to enable features.
Heck, the 232 protocol for the Sharp LC65D93U didn’t even list a power on command, but we got it to work and here’s how we did it:
- First, manually turn the display on.
- Second, manually send the ‘RSPW1’ or ‘RSPW 1’ command from terminal.
- Last, you’re done. The unit should now respond to the ‘POWR1’ or ‘POWR 1’ command.
- I suggest adding a button on a touch panel somewhere, explaining this resolution, so that when you leave the jobsite and something happens, you can walk the customer through these steps.
Finally, I faced the dilema of is it ‘RSPW1’ or ‘RSPW 1’. I’m not sure anyone really has a definitive answer here. I’d say that it will match the syntax used in the protocol manual for the other commands. Since this command seems to be un-documented, it is a best-guess.
Good luck and enjoy the frustrations you’re about to face to get this silly thing to simply turn on.
