Sony FWD-50PX2

23 October 2008, 07:08 by Chad Reynoldson

Wow, talk about AV quirks, this Sony FWD-50PX2 may be the bench-mark for quirky. This unit is modular, with different input cards for optional signal types. One of these options is the ICS-SP30, a digital TV tuner card.

If you use this tuner card, it will render the 232 port on the display useless. The idea is you’d then control the display through the tuner card using it’s own 232 port. That would be a fine solution, if it only worked. We could NOT get the tuner card to turn the display on or off. We were able to get the tuner card to to switch inputs, by changing channels, yuk. Yes you have to “map” the various inputs of the tuner (Video, SVideo, RGB, etc) to tv channels.

We finally pulled the tuner cards and all worked out fine. If you require this tuner card installed in this monitor, I suggest going with IR control.
