Staying On Target

One of the biggest problems I overcome is the need to stay on target. I no longer have a boss to tell me what to do and when to do it, I only have myself. I found David Seah’s Printable CEOâ„¢ and it has helped keeep me focused.

As a self-employed programmer, there are a lot of things to do. I am now a network administrator, web administrator, accountant, receptionist, tech support, business development, etc. Early on, before I read David’s article, I found myself spending time on a lot of things, without a clear objective or timeframe of finishing a task.

David’s PCEO is the right thing to keep me task oriented. What I’ve done is break down each day with a short list of business oriented tasks that will consume a small amount of time, maybe an hour or two. Then each morning I refer to my daily task list and plan on doing it either early in the morning, or sometime during the day. Then I spend the rest of the day working on projects for my customers without letting the business tasks get in the way.

Each morning, I take out my PCEO, and write down notes on things I was able to accomplish the day before, people I had talked to, and I add more tasks that have come to my attention. This is my report card for the previous days activities.
